Texas holdem poker uses five-card hands with standard valuations. What is unique is the use of "community cards." Each player is dealt two cards face down. Then five community cards, also known as the "board," are laid face up in the center of the table. Each player forms his best possible five card hand with any combination of his own two down cards,and the community cards. A player can use one, both, or none of his cards, along with whatever he needs from the board. Occasionally, the five community cards form the strongest hand at the table, in which case everyone has the same hand.

Royal Flush:
The highest possible hand, a straight from 10 to Ace in the same suit Also known as a Royal Straight Flush, or just a Royal.

Straight Flush:
Five consecutive cards of the same suit. When there’s more than one player with a straight flush, the straight to the higher card wins.

Four of a Kind: Four cards of the same rank, also known as Quads.

Full House:
A hand made of three of a kind and two pairs.

Flush:
Five cards of the same suit. When there’s more than one player with a flush, the higher card that is not common to both hands wins.

Straight:
Five consecutive cards, such as 6,7,8,9,10; when there’s more than one player with a straight, the straight to the higher card wins.

Three of a Kind:
Three cards of the same rank, also called Trips

twopair

Two Pair:
A hand made up of one pair of one rank and a second pair of another rank.

onepair

One Pair:
Two of the same card.

highcard

High Card:
If no one has any of the above hands, the player with the highest card in their hand wins. Ace being the highest.
